As lead designer for the Berkeley Group of Architecture and Planning, Stefan Al led a 12-person interdisciplinary design team of architects, urban designers and planners in the masterplanning of a new sustainable city, Nanocity. The government of the State of Haryana, allowed an 11,000 acre site by Nano Works (Sabeer Bhatia, founder of Hotmail). The design of the masterplan is based on existing green conditions. The city features renewable energy sources, natural water reclamation ecologies, bus rapid transit, parks, tree-lined streets and shaded walkways. The main intent is to create a livable, dense, mixed-use, eco-friendly I.T. development that can serve as a model for other developments in the region.
