Al, in collaboration with Jason Carlow, designed a construction system of prefabricated joints that are sent to a site for assembly with local bamboo and rattan materials. To date, the structures that have been developed using this system include a large concert hall, a tropical resort, a temporary emergency tent, and a self-sufficient eco complex that collects rainwater and harvests solar energy. By linking local materials with computer-modeled connections, sophisticated shapes can be realized, while dramatically reducing shipping costs and energy.
